about
Lone Mountain is a headworld / small town drama focused on furry/anthro LGBT+ characters. It takes place within the Dog of Paradise universe, but in south of the San Francisco Bay, in the Santa Cruz Mountains, in a fictional town called Monte Toyon (including various other fictional towns as well). They are inspired by the rural mountain towns of the real life mountains, including Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond, Felton, and Mt. Hermon. The central character of the story is Sage, a kit fox trans girl local to Monte Toyon. The story follows her and her extended friend group as they live the blur between high school and a future, while remaining in their rural mountain town. The group of friends mostly met each other through a botany & native plant program offered by their high school, ran by an older wolf man named Jack. They share a love for the nature around them and relate to each other with their complex LGBT+ identities and experiences. They all remained in their town post high school graduation, despite many of peers leaving for college or better cities. The cast now deal with romance, gender / sexuality feelings, post high school / college life, a sense of belonging or a longing for a different life outside the small town.

forest park
Technically outside of Monte Toyon out eastward, going into Los Gatos, this suburban but still decently forested neighborhood is where the more wealthy residents reside.
other Loma Prieta towns & beyond
??? the town just north of Monte Toyon, which Pine Ridge Estates blends into and enters Big Basin. Smaller than Monte Toyon and ???, but known for it's farmer's market at the local church.
??? the town just south of Monte Toyon, long Hwy 9. A little smaller than Monte Toyon but has some beloved swimming holes and hiking trails, an Ecology/Environment research center, a Science/Education camp, and has a neighborhood/road that leads to Lake Toyon. Ristorante Chêne Miel and some of the dive bars are technically within it's town limits.
Loma Vista south of ???, and towards the lower part of Hwy 9, this town is the most flat, most suburban (besides Forest Park), and has strip malls / chain stores. The High School the cast went to as on the northside of this, bordering the dense trees of the north.
Big Bear Creek a small and spread out community, south of Monte Toyon but east of Loma Vista. Hosts a lot of the rentals, cabins, motor lodges and so on are in this town.
Woodleaf Valley overlaps Monte Toyon and Stone Beach, not so much a town its just a designated community. farms, ranches, vineyards, and orchards and artist communes. Partially wooded mountainsides, partially coastal grassy hills.
Rockmoss State Beach northwest of Big Basin, this small state beach is a popular spot with the cast as it's less known to the area and doesn't have many rich beach houses lining it compared to ??? Beach.
??? & ??? State Beach A tiny beach town Southwest of Monte Toyon, south of Rockmoss Beach, It's part of the greater Loma Prieta community, though it's the only town not "in the woods". While Rockmoss is primarily just beach/nature, ??? Beach has a little main street of businesses and a small neighborhood, but also has some wealthier beach/ocean view houses scattered around. It's more tourist compared to Rockmoss, so the cast tends to favor it less, but they love the coffee shop here (Seadrop Coffee). Both Rockmoss/??? Beach are inspired by Pescadero, Davenport, Half Moon Bay areas.
Strawberry an rural unincorporated community that mainly houses work stations for fire, rescue, and state park offices, but some folk do live out here.
Sugar Pine a ghost town that used to be a historic railroad stop
San Francisco and San Jose not at all part of Loma Prieta, both are north of Monte Toyon, with San Jose being a 45 minute drive, and San Francisco is a little over an hour, but may be referenced quite a bit with the characters so worth mentioning.
