about

Lone Mountain is the name of the story involving the rural mountain and coastal communities collectively known as Monte Toyon. It focuses primarily on a friend group of LGBT furry/anthro characters living in Monte Toyon.Monte Toyon is sometimes referred to a town, or as a collection of smaller towns and neighborhoods making up the Monte Toyon 'area'.Located in a fictionalized version of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about 1 hour and 30 minutes south of San Francisco, and 40 minutes southwest of San Jose. Inspired by the real life mountain towns the Santa Cruz Mountains, primarily Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond, Felton, and the coastal communities of Davenport and Half Moon Bay, as well as inspiration from Portland, Oregon. The central character of the story of Lone Mountain is Sage, a kit fox trans girl local to Monte Toyon. Following her and her extended friend group as they live the blur between high school and post high school future. The group of friends mostly met each other through a botany & native plant program offered by their high school, ran by an older wolf man named Jack. They share a love for the nature around them and relate to each other with their complex LGBT+ identities and experiences. They all remained in their town post high school graduation, despite many of peers leaving for college or better cities. The cast now deal with romance, gender / sexuality feelings, post high school / college life, a sense of belonging or a longing for a different life outside the small town.

Approximate location of the fictional Monte Toyon

The purpose of Lone Mountain / Monte Toyon is to feel like it could be adapted into a comic, or a dating sim type of media. It's meant to be a place to pair up various characters and imagine their interactions and complicated lives as they live in their unique community.
